Student's Initiative in Palliative Care

The attitude to serve the fellow beings who are poor and ill needs to be instilled in the minds of youngsters right at the time of their education. Considering this key aspect, Prateeksha had carefully crafted a very unique program for students, which aims to augment the Human in them, christened as ‘ Students’ Initiative in Palliative Care’. The programme had been designed in such a way that the students, whichever may be their stream of study, can participate in Volunteer Home Care activities without affecting their regular academics. The students of various institutions in and around Kootanad, had been dedicatedly participating in the programmes and getting immensely benefitted from it. One of the very unique aspects of the programme is the residential camp for students, which provides them an immersive and hands-on experience in various aspects of Palliative care. The programme is well rounded and hence also touches spheres of activities other than medical, like the mode of bathing the patients to how to paint the houses.

Sensing the value of the programme and also appreciating the benefits of mutual co-operation, Ashtamgam Ayurveda Cikitsalayam and Vidyapeedham, an Ayurveda Medical College, located at Kootanad had extended their invaluable help by offering the service of students, who are undergoing their Ayurveda medical training as volunteers, by opening a unit of SIP in their campus
